Event Horizon Hong Kong

The Event Horizon project was initiated by the Very Hong Kong Foundation and Art-Partners was brought in as project directors to secure funding and project partners, manage the art installation and create the extensive outreach programme.

Event Horizon by artist Sir Antony Gormley is the most extensive public art installation ever seen in Hong Kong. Between November 2015 and May 2016 thirty one sculptures looking out into space were installed at both street level and building tops across Hong Kong’s Central and Western districts.

These stoic metal figures gazed out upon the towering skyline of Hong Kong and the spaces that exist between them. They looked upon the environment as if it was strange and unknown. Their unfamiliarity makes us reconsider our own world and question how we interact with the spaces and people around us. As the first of its kind in the local sphere of public art, it marked a turning point in the collective Hong Kong identity. Large projects such as this puts Hong Kong at the forefront of the modern art world and allows the public participate in this cultural movement.
