As the art consultants for the project, Levina Li and Sarah Pringle, Directors of Art-Partners invited Royal Academy to partner with Peninsula hotel to launch "Love Art at The Peninsula" programme, and managed the installation of this ground-breaking public art installation on a heritage building. Art-Partners also managed the public talks programme with the artist and Tim Marlow, Director of Artistic Programmes at the Royal Academy.
The work by artist Richard Wilson, RA, Hang On A Minute Lads…I’ve Got A Great Idea, featured a full-sized replica of a vintage twin-axle Harrington Legionnaire coach that appears to be teetering on the edge of The Peninsula’s seventh-floor Sun Terrace. Inspired by the final line of the seminal 1969 British heist movie The Italian Job, the work marked the beginning of The Peninsula’s pioneering three-year collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts. The rendering of an iconic cinematic moment into a new and unlikely context, atop of one of Hong Kong’s most iconic architectural landmarks pushed the boundaries of what can be achieved with public art. It also demonstrated how the historic and the contemporary can be incorporated in modern day Hong Kong.
