As the art consultants for the project, Levina Li and Sarah Pringle, Directors of Art-Partners invited Royal Academy to partner with Peninsula hotel to launch "Love Art at The Peninsula" programme, managed the art installation and provided assistance for the outreach programme.
For the fourth edition of Love Art at The Peninsula, in collaboration with Royal Academy of Arts, the Irish-born artist Sir Michael Craig-Martin, otherwise known as “The Godfather of Brit Art” was invited to unveil a brand new sculptural work ‘Bright Idea’. The site-specific work appeared to emerge from the fountain in The Peninsula’s forecourt, a 4-meter-high bright yellow lightbulb, fabricated from powder-coated, high tensile steel. Craig Martin’s minimalist design framed its surroundings, incorporating the backdrop of the Peninsula hotel into art. The simple representation of the ubiquitous lightbulb challenged us to consider the way form and purpose interact in the modern world.
